THE RENAISSANCE

- The Renaissance is a period in European history, covering the span between the 14^th

and 17^th centuries.

DEFINITION

- Defined as “rebirth”, “early modern period” and this is the period that turn towards

the classics and discovery of new worlds.

HUMANISM

- A renaissance cultural movement which turned away from medieval scholasticism

and revived interest in ancient Greek and Roman thought.

- Humanistic stated that man should be the object of study, not God.

REFORMATION

- Specifically referred to as the Protestant Reformation, was a schism in Western

Christianity initiated by Martin Lurther and continued by John Calvin.

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

- Born in Stratford-upon-Avon. Shakespeare did not go to university and married

Anne Hathaway. They had a daughter and twins, one twin died.

- He is a good and responsible businessman.

SHAKESPEARE AND THE RENAISSANCE

- The plays are :

- Is a fourteen lines poem in iambic pentameter.

SHAKESPEAREAN

- By Shakespearean

- Rhyme scheme: abab, cdcd, efef, gg.

- Sonnet 1-126 are for a young man.

- Sonnet 127-154 are for a “Dark Lady or Mistress”.

What is English Romantic Literature? Romantic is characterised by the expression of love. Romantic also means a word which describes the feeling you have for someone you love. The Cavalier Poets During the Post-Renaissance period, there were three separate eras, which were the Caroline Era, the Restoration Period and also the Augustan Age. I found the Caroline Era really interesting, especially when it comes to a group of poets who called themselves the Cavalier Poets. So how did they got their name? What about the characteristics of these poets? And who are the Cavalier Poets? The Cavalier Poets are actually a group of poets who supported King Charles I who was an expert and really love fine arts. Dark Romanticism Gothic romantic literature started from a long way which is during the 18th to 19th century in England and what is it about? It revolves around supernatural, horror and set against dark backgrounds. Few characteristics of Gothic romantic literature are the presence of ghosts, vampire and spirits. Some people may call it as dark romanticism or gothic romantic and it is the subgenre of Romanticism.
