Sense & Sensibility the Movie by Nuramni Adabiah (195261)

Sense & Sensibility (1996)

If I could but know his heart, everything would become easy.” This is quoted from Jane Austen book which is Sense & Sensibility. The movie Sense & Sensibility (1995) is mostly adapted from the original novel of Jane Austen.  After watching the Sense & Sensibility (1995), I honestly think that the story could’ve been in a more realistic view of a person. I do honestly think that the movie is a beautiful heart-warming story of 2 sisters which is Marianne and Elinor that occurred during the 19th century in England. The story is obviously a romantic drama which is full of plot twists. Even nowadays, there are new modern movies, the movies are Lost in Austen (2008) and Scents & Sensibility (2011) that was based on Jane Austen’s novel.

Initially, I do think that the movie could’ve been more realistic even if it is during the 19th century. In my opinion, people during that period should’ve been thinking in a more critical way compared to the Romantic era.

It still bothers me on how Marianne sees thing in a sort of childish way compared to Elinor who is the type who thinks through in a logical way. I stated that Marianne as childish is because she is overly-emotional which obviously bothering on how she kept emphasizing on how pure and happy love is. Love isn’t a feeling where you’ll only feel butterflies in your tummy, but, love is a whole hell of a journey. Love isn’t as easy as it seems.

Besides that, it bothers me on how it was stated “that Marianne found her own happiness in forming his [Colonel Brandon’s], was equally the persuasion and delight of each observing friend. Marianne could never love by halves; and her whole heart became, in time, as much devoted to her husband, as it had once been to Willoughby.” Marianne should’ve just move on as how life is.  She needs to learn on how to accept the reality. “Sometimes, the person you love the most isn’t the ones who loves you.” She needs to realize on how Colonel Brandon would’ve risk everything just for her since the beginning they met compared to Willoughby. Marianne should’ve thought about the sacrifices that Colonel Brandon did in the past.

Regardless of how it is, I am happy towards the ending as it is where in the end Colonel has gotten the opportunity to marry Marianne. It may looked unfair from Marianne’s perspective, but I do think that in the end Colonel Brandon would’ve done whatever it takes just to make Marianne happy despite what challenges they face in the end.

Relationship tips by Sir Gawain and The Green Knight Sir Gawain and The Green Knight is a late 14-th Century Middle English chivalric romance. It’s one of the most well-known stories during the reign of King Arthur. It is an important example of a chivalric romance which usually involves a hero going on a quest that will test his power and self. Its author is unknown, just like Beowulf. It’s a story of how Sir Gawain accepts a challenge by a Green Knight who suddenly appears at King Arthur’s Palace one day. John Keats by Chen Fan (ES02169)

John Keats John Keats was one of the main figures of the second generation of Romantic poets, along with Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley. He died at the age of 25 in the year 1821. During his lifetime, he published only fifty-four poems, and his poems were not generally well received. However, His reputation grew after his death. Most of Keats’s poetry describes the beauty of the natural world, he once said “beauty is truth, truth is beauty”. For example, his famous poems Ode to a Nightingale and To Autumn. Here I want to share his last poetical work, the “bright star”. This sonnet is said to write for his beloved Fanny Brawne.            Bright star, would I were steadfast as thou art---            Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night              And watching, with eternal lids apart.    ...
